Parents: How to Choose Quality Child Care
Research shows that high quality early childhood education programs improve a child’s readiness for school and prepares them for success in kindergarten and beyond. High 5 for Quality is El Dorado County’s quality rating and improvement system (QRIS) for licensed early care and education providers and is based upon well-defined, high quality standards and offers support and incentives to assist providers in reaching higher levels of quality. The goals of High 5 for Quality are to improve the quality of early care and education programs in El Dorado County and to offer parents and families an identifiable symbol of quality.
High 5 for Quality Rating Guide
Programs rated by High 5 for Quality demonstrate compliance with licensing requirements and volunteer to participate in High 5 for Quality. High 5 for Quality uses a scale of one to five to rate overall program quality. The following is a brief summary of what the quality levels mean.
Tier 1 |
Licensed and is in good standing with licensing regulations. |

Tier 2 |
Licensed and exceeds licensing standards in some areas. Beginning to explore quality improvement activities. |

Tier 3 |
Licensed and exceeds licensing standards in multiple areas. Independent rating assessments have been completed by a reliable observer. |
|
Tier 4 |
Licensed and exceeds licensing standards in all areas. Independent rating assessments show higher scores. |
|
Tier 5 |
Licensed and exceeds licensing standards in all areas. Independent rating assessments show the highest scores. |

How are High 5 for Quality Ratings Calculated?
An Early Childhood Program's overall quality rating is the result of the program's demonstrated ability to meet High 5 for Quality criteria at the time of rating. Please ask the individual programs for their rating report card.
